Fool for Florals

Blouse : forever 21 | Jeans :  Jessica  Simpson

Today's outfit was inspired by the hopeful feeling of waking up to the sound of birds chirping rather than the roar of snow blowers in the morning. The feeling of comfortably walking to your car and enjoying the sun shining on your skin as the warm breeze dances by you, blowing your hair around, instead of running to the car while the wind punches you in your face, as snot drips down your nose.

Today's floral denim, bare shoulders, and wedge heels got me thinking that Mother Nature really is like an actual mother. She dictates so much of what we do, from daily activities, to how we dress, what we eat... I even feel like she grounds me all winter and I'm not allowed to go out and play.

Well, mother, Spring has sprung and you can't keep me locked up anymore! It's time to bare my shoulders and toes and feel that sun shining on my face!

Shoes :  Steve Madden | Bag :  Target

I must say, I am a total sucker for floral denim. These ones  have a nice bit of stretch and I just love the colors! Lilac, navy, and sort of a yellow green. I paired them with this lilac sleeveless blouse from Forever 21. I love this top, not only because the color is one of my favorites, but it also has these lovely little details. The pleating on the front pocket and this pleat down the back just add a really nice touch.

Also, this is the first time my little toes have been exposed in months and I must say, sommmmebodyyy needs a pedicure! Hmm... maybe that somebody will treat herself ;)

What are your favorite spring/summer pieces to wear once the winter winds calm and the temperatures rise to a comfortable state?

Product Rave: Diorshow Iconic Overcurl

I have a confession to make. Not a huge offense as far as most people in the world are concerned. But, a great offense in the beauty world. Ok, here it is...

I have never tried Diorshow mascara.

Ok, well I tried Diorshow Blackout. I honestly wasn't too impressed. It made my lashes quite black, but that's about it. Also, I think it dried out really fast. After that, I resolved to stick to drugstore mascaras, which I felt worked just fine for me. Then there was Benefit's They're Real, which got me back on the high end mascara bandwagon. Recently, I was trying to figure out which cult mascara to try next with my 15% Sephora VIB discount. It was down to Diorshow, Makeup Forever Smokey Lash, and Lancome Hypnose. Then, I saw the new Diorshow mascara, Diorshow Iconic Overcurl.

I liked the look of the curved brush, as lately I have felt like my lashes need a bit of curl, along with some volume and length. Basically, I just want it all.

Well, I would say this mascara comes close to meeting all those needs :)

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl -  $ 28

Check  out  those  lashes !  And  my  shiny  face !

This mascara not only gives me dreamy, fluttery lashes, it gives me nice volume and a pretty decent curl! Also, it does lengthen my lashes quite a bit, too. I would be interested to see how this fares when used along with Benefit They're Real, which I felt lengthened quite a lot. Or maybe you could use this along with Blackout, for added drama.

I quite enjoy this mascara! I think the secret is all in how you hold the wand. I hold it with the wand facing the way it is in the second photo and wiggle it through my lashes. I slowly close my eyes on the brush as I do this. Does that make sense? I feel like it really coats my lashes from base to tip when I do this. I usually do about three coats to get a more dramatic look.

I haven't noticed any smudging or flaking with this. I think the curl also lasts quite well for me. This was a bit expensive at $28, but for me, it was worth the price and I would repurchase. Although, I do find that mascaras are one of those products that you really don't need to splurge on. I think there are so many drugstore mascaras that are probably just as nice as this. It all depends on how many you want to try before you find the right one. However, if you are looking for a high end mascara, I think this would be a great place to start!

Has anyone else tried this? What are your thoughts? What is your HG mascara? I love to know what works for other people!

A Million Ways to Maximize Your Maxi - Part 1: The Chambray Shirt

I have decided to do a little series of posts devoted to my new chiffon maxi skirt I scored from Forever 21 (for only $17.50). The idea for this series came when I was lusting after a long tutu I saw on Anthropologie's website and after deciding I would never wear it because it was too fancy and anyway what on earth would I wear it with?, I never purchased it. Then, I realized all the ways I could have worn that gorgeous full length tutu, and was completely disappointed in myself for not realizing before it was too late!

Well, when I was searching for some bargain buys in my local Forever 21 a few days ago, I saw this lovely, flowey, pink pleated chiffon maxi skirt hanging on the wall across the room. I was instantly drawn to it. I knew I could wear it all the same ways I could have worn the tutu! When I tried it on and realized I actually didn't look frumpy in it, my mind started racing with ideas.

The first was this chambray shirt. I love pairing something this flowey and girly with something so casual. Also, I'm really into this tying my shirts thing lately. Anyway, I love this look, because the shirt offsets the dressiness of the skirt and the ballet flats make it extra casual for just easy wear around town, think lunch with a pal, or even just shopping and running errands. You could wear this to a dinner as well. It's a pretty versatile look. Also, I love the way the colors look together. In an effort to mix in a few different textures, I dug this thrift store clutch out of a pile (this looks like it's made out of raffia or something?)

classic  ballet  flats : H & M

pleated  chiffon  maxi  skirt : forever 21

raffia clutch : thrift store

Shirt: Tommy Girl | Jeans: J Crew
Kerchief: Madewell | Watch: Michael Kors
Necklace: H & M | Bracelets: Target and Fossil

Shoes: Kelsi Dagger | Bag: Target

Living in suburban Michigan, I often have to find beauty in places one wouldn't otherwise look. Taking outfit photos is sometimes a difficult task, as my immediate surroundings  really don't offer anything terribly interesting to look at. So, when I see something a little different, or just anything that might add a little pizazz to my photos, I have to take advantage. These were taken in front of a construction set up outside of my local Target. Glamorous, huh?

I also feel like I am always racing the weather (and daylight), because one second, it's sunny and warm and within moments, it could snow, start hailing, or you could get sucked up like a cow in a tornado. You just never know.

Well, anyway, these mint jeans always inspire me to create fun outfits! I love them like a close relative. They are more versatile than you would expect and they are the perfect shade of mint. That's the thing about J Crew, they do the perfect shade of any color! Does that make sense to anyone else? Also, I got these super great Kelsi Dagger heels in this periwinkle color (they're called cobalt blue online, but in my opinion, cobalt is darker.) I am loving this color so much lately! And damn I love these two colors together :)

I hope you enjoyed this look! I will continue to search for new backdrops for photos, so you guys don't have to look at me standing in my driveway, or like in front of Walmart or something.

Thanks for stopping by!

"Bow Tie" Chic

Jacket: Urban Outfitters | Blouse: Forever 21
Trousers: ASOS | Shoes: J Lo (haha)
Suspenders: Vintage | "Bow tie": Claire's

So I haven't been posting lately, I know. It's not that I don't like you guys or anything. We have just been having the worst weather lately! Rainy, freezing, and really no sunshine. So, I have really just been waiting for the sun to come out to take some decent photos.

I ordered these cute polka dot pants from ASOS and really didn't know what to expect since I usually don't opt for trouser style pants. However, I got the petite size to account for my general lack of anything resembling height and I think it worked out nicely! These pants only make my butt and hips look a little weird, and I am pretty happy with the length. Also, they sort of feel like pajamas, which is always a winning quality in my book. They are comfy but kind of dressy. Now, if I wore them with a hoodie and my owl slippers...

I paired these trousers with a sleek heel to offset the manishness of the pants and bowtie. Now, yes, these heels are from J Lo's shoe line. Weird, right? Never expected myself to be drawn to a pair of J Lo shoes. Oh well. They were cheaper than the Zara heels I wanted which were similar.

Now, the last little secret about this outfit, and possibly my favorite part, is the "bow tie." I put the word bow tie in quotations, because this is actually not a bow tie at all. The truth is, I was sort of hard up for a bow tie one day, so I took this hair bow and clipped it on between the buttons on my shirt. BAM! Lady bow tie :) Sometime's a girl's got to improvise, yo.

Thanks for tuning in, lovelies! Don't forget to subscribe if you like my little bloggie here! Also, I got a Lookbook.nu account, and there is a link at the bottom of my page if you want to check it out!

Oh, and do you guys prefer blogs to have a mobile version? I kind of like them without, because I like to get the whole experience with the nice background and everything, but I changed mine in an attempt to make it more user friendly. Let me know if it works out that way! Also, on a random note, to all my fellow US'ers, don't forget your taxes are due tomorrow (the 15th)!

Tag: This or That

I saw this on Christine from Little Red Bow's blog. Seeing as I love talking about myself (just kidding, but not really) I decided to give it a go.

A  K  E  U  P

Blush or bronzer?
Mmm... I love me some blush. Specifically pink blush. Most bronzers don't work for me since I'm basically a corpse.

Eye liner or mascara?
I do enjoy a good winged eye liner look, but eyes without mascara aren't even worth having in my opinion. Was that weird to say? Uhh... Mascara. Final answer.

Foundation or concealer?
Well, seeing as my entire face needs concealing, I would say foundation. Because wouldn't foundation be considered an all-over concealer?

Lipstick or lipgloss?
Gotta love me some lipstick. I'm not a huge fan of my hair sticking to my lips

Neutral or colored eyeshadow?
Neutral all.the.way.

Pressed or loose eyeshadow?
I can't really be bothered with loose eyeshadows at this point in my life. My hands are far too shaky.

Brushes or sponges?
Um. I feel like I get the best coverage out of a brush. Also, I really enjoy just looking at all of my brush heads peeking out of my brush holder. It's kind of sexy. No?

OPI or China Glaze?

I really love the quality of OPI polishes. But China Glaze has really nice colors... Screw it. Let's go with OPI.

Long or short?
Short-ish? Not too short like I've bitten them down to nothing, but not strippery either.

Acryclic or natural?
I prefer au natural!

Brights or Darks?
Brights, probably. Pastels. Bright pastels? Whatever mint and lilac are :)

Flowers or no flowers?
Um, maybe no?

 B O D Y  S T U F F

Perfume or body spray?
Perfume! Oh definitely.

Lotion or body butter?
It doesn't really matter. Body butter, I guess?

Body wash or soap?
Body wash ftw!

Lush or another bath company?
Well, I have only shopped at Lush once, but I must say it was a success. I was quite impressed with them. However, I really love Soap and Glory! I guess I would choose Soap and Glory, because their products are great and their packaging is adorable! I wasn't especially pleased with Lush's packaging.

F A S H I O N

Jeans or sweat pants?
Not gonna lie, I love laying around at home with sweat pants. I also prefer to look presentable in public. So, jeans it is

Long sleeves or short?
Maybe short? No, maybe long sleeves in the form of a cardigan. I have freckly, pale arms which I prefer not to show off too much

Dresses or skirts?
Grr. I hate this question. I really like both. I guess a skirt can be styled more ways, but a dress is comfier. Dress, maybe?

Stripes or plaid?
Stripes, especially if they're black and white.

Flip flops or sandals?
Sandals look prettier

Scarves or hats?
Hats help cover this mess I have sitting on my head. So, hats, I guess.

Studs or dangly earrings?
Would it count if I said clip ons? Unfortunately, my ear holes have decided they're closed for business.

Necklaces or bracelets?
Necklaces! It's sort of a rare occasion for me to find bracelets that fit my baby wrists.

Heels or flats?
Though heels do great things for my legs, I am and will forever be a flats girl. I don't last very long in heels before I start to whine and cry like a small child who's mother won't buy them any Little Debbie treats in the line at Target.

Cowboy boots or riding boots?

Jacket or hoodie?
Jacket. I save the hoodies and sweat pants for the couch.

Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe?
Weird question. F21 I suppose.

Abercrombie or Hollister?
J Crew? I feel like I'm getting too old for those stores. I do own some Hollister jeans, though.

Saks 5th or Nordstrom?
Whenever I go to Saks, all the snotty, old ladies give me dirty looks, so I'm going to go with Nordstrom. Yeah, I love Nordstrom :)

Thanks for reading! Or just scrolling through to the end if that's what you did ;) Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin' or GFC (if you're keepin' it old school like me.) Also, Check out my new Facebook page, or whatever. :)

Face of the Day: Purple Pop

Alright, so today I did something totally out of control. I wore color on my eyes! Gasp! You can barely see it in these photos (haha) but, I promise you, I did. I figured, hell, spring is here (sort of), let's get crazy!

I decided to line my bottom lash line with a purple shadow from my Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland eye palette. Little back story on why I decided to finally brush the dust off this bad daddy (is that weird to say?) Well, I have been collecting my used up products for a "Product Empties" type post and decided I kind of like finishing up a product. I have been realizing that a lot of these expensive products I buy just go to waste. So, today, I reached for this old palette I sort of lost interest in when I started strictly wearing neutrals. Urban Decay makes some of the best, most pigmented eyeshadows and I figured, why let these go completely to waste? The funny thing about this palette is, though it is filled with fun, bright colors, the only one I have used up is Drink Me, Eat Me (which is actually Sin from their permanent line), a champagne shade.

Ok, so, now that that is out of the way, here's the full list of products I used for this ridiculously simple look:

  • Caudalie Beauty Elixor
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
  • Giorgio Armani Luminous Foundation
  • Benefit Coralista Blush
  • MAC Painterly Paint Pot - Base
  • Urban Decay shadows in
  • Drink Me, Eat Me (Sin) - Inner third of lid
  • Curiouser (Grifter) - Outer third of lid
  • White Rabbit (Polyester Bride) - Inner corner highlight
  • Underland (Flash) - Lower lash line
  • Rimmel ScandalEyes Mascara
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse
  • MAC Outrageously Fun Lipstick
I chose purple to make my brown eyes pop a little. My blush doesn't really show up in these photos and it looks like I may have jaundice. Haha on that note, I hope you enjoyed this look and have a happy Sunday!

Casual Cuteness

So, today I decided to do a little throwback, casual thing with my outfit. When I was a bit younger, I used to wear band tee shirts all the time. Sometimes I would dress it up with a cardigan or something, but I was all about keeping it casual. I recently got this tee shirt at a Passion Pit concert I went to with my favorite friend, Molly. (If you have never heard of this band, I would definitely suggest you check them out. They are super fun!)

Now, Molly and I have been best friends for about fifteen years. Seriously. We were in the fourth grade when we first met. We used to ride the bus together and I'm pretty sure we swapped gum once. Why does all of this matter? It probably doesn't. However, what does matter is that any time we do something together (like this concert for example), I know it is going to be a memorable time.

Wearing this tee shirt isn't just a representation of the type of music I like. It isn't just me saying, "Hey everybody! Look how cool I am in my band tee shirt!" This simple shirt is a reminder of the night my best friend/sister and I nearly froze to death  running across a busy road sans coat, her in a dress, and me in shorts with tights in the middle of February. And how the venue had run out of main floor wrist bands, so we hopped over the wall and ran from the security  guards to get to the main floor. Because, honestly, who wants to dance their ass off in a chair far from where the band is playing? Then, we went back to our hotel (yes, we got a hotel for the event even though the venue was only about 30-40 minutes from home) and drank wine in the hot tub until 2:00 in the morning.

So, today, to adultify this tee shirt, I decided to pair it with some high waisted black jeans, a blazer, a couple of bracelets, and my rose gold Michael Kors watch. Btw, does anyone else get a weird crotch thing in jeans? Especially high waisted ones. Just me? Oh.

Do you have any articles of clothing that elicit fond memories? Or unfortunate ones?
