Baby It's (effing) Cold Outside

I'm thinking maybe I should have called this blog, "Bathroom Mirror Diaries,"since it seems lately that I have been focusing more on what happens in front of the vanity mirror rather than any dressing room. I feel like I just haven't been very inspired lately as far as fashion goes. Maybe it's just that sometimes I don't feel like anything looks good on me. Then, there's the whole, I could write/talk about cosmetics and skin care forever, thing.

Anyway, this is just a pretty simple cold weather outfit I threw together. I wanted to wear my Madewell Scallop Lace Top, but I definitely needed another layer, due to the temperature dropage, so that's where the buffalo check shirt came in. Like I said, I like to intermingle my masculines and feminines.

I also have to mention these jeans I picked up at Aritzia. They're Rag and Bone true denim jeans with very little stretch. This was sort of off-putting at first. These jeans are extremely stiff, which, as a jeggings wearer, I am not used to. However, something about these jeans just felt special. Something about the stiff, raw denim just called out to me.

Now, the boots. I have always hated the duck boots... in fact, winter boots in general. However, when I spotted these Sperry Shearwater Boots on the J Crew site, I needed them. With the impending winter weather, and not wanting my little toes to freeze off, I conned my dad into buying them for my birthday!

Lastly, please note my super wild hair. I am planning a post for all the curly haired beauties out there, who have trouble taming those beastly manes (like mine.) So, if you have issues getting your curly locks, smooth, straight, and manageable, stay tuned!

Make a Wish and Get Lucky

I have been on the hunt for simple, dainty gold necklaces for a while. I recently came across these two and fell in love.

I purchased the horse shoe necklace from and received the wishbone one as a gift from my sweetie :) It's from, a site I could probably bankrupt myself with, because they have so many great necklaces!

I love these because they are simple enough to wear everyday, but also pretty enough to wear with a cocktail dress to a party. Today I wore them together, because I just love them both so much!

I think these would make great gifts if there is a lady in your life that you are still panicking over what to buy for Christmas or any other occasion.

Happy Birthday To Me... From Me

So I recently went on a little cosmetics shopping trip and bought myself a few early birthday presents. I went in search of a new moisturizer for my parched, flaky face, and left with a few bags I really wasn't anticipating.

As far as the moisturizer goes, I finally decided on the .5oz (15 ml) bottle of Josie Maran's Argan Daily Moisturizer with SPF 40. The first thing I noticed about this was the strong scent. It smells like a cross between a My Little Pony and a Lip Smackers. Not to say it smells bad, just not like the things I normally rub all over my sensitive face. However, I have noticed my skin seems much smoother since I have been using this and possibly more radiant. Not sure if I will repurchase, as I like trying new products, but I will say this is worth the (I think) $14 I spent on it.

Next up, my favorite little splurge of the day...

Tom Ford's Wild Ginger lipstick!

I took a stroll into Neiman Marcus to see if they carried the Tom Ford line. Low and Behold, there it was! Just a small table with some lipsticks, nail polishes, and some perfumes. So, no blushes or foundations, but the lipsticks were what I was really there for.

Obviously, I decided on Wild Ginger. Was I running a fever? No? Then, why would I willingly spend $48 on one tube of lipstick?

Below, Wild Ginger in all its red orange glory...

Is this lipstick that much better than, say, a MAC or a Nars lipstick? Maybe not twice as good (to justify twice the price), but something about it does feel truly luxurious and just special. The packaging feels like something a little more special and the lipstick does last really well and when it does wear off, it wears evenly. It also feels pretty nice and light, and doesn't settle into the lines in my lips.

Yes, I plan on purchasing another one of these ;)

The Sugar Lip Treatment minis were my birthday gift from Sephora :)

I also made my first Laura Mercier purchase: The Artist's Palette For Eyes.

Ok, so I have to say I hate the packaging for this. It looks like it has been wrapped in some hooker's old fishnets. However, a few of the colors in this palette really spoke to me. Chocolate, African Violet, and Plum Smoke. These three looked so pretty and unique from everything else I currently own. I figured I could also experiment with the different matte shades in this palette, since I usually gravitate towards shimmers. I'm still trying to make this palette work, since I haven't really been doing too much with my eyes lately. I have been more about playing up the lips, but I'm always getting bored and switching things up, so hopefully I will get some use out of this palette.
(Please excuse the filthiness of this palette. I am a slob)
above (the shimmers): Chocolate, African Violet, Sable, Guava, Cameo, Sunlit.
below (the mattes): Vanilla Nuts, Plum Smoke, Cafe Au Lait, Coffee Ground, Deep Night, Rich Coffee

I believe this palette was $48 at Sephora. I like that is has an equal amount of mattes and shimmers. I honestly haven't used this too much. I guess I'll just have to report back once I do.

I also picked up my first Lip Tar from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. Now, I only tried this on once and didn't even leave the house, so I can't say much, BUT, I will say I enjoyed the accuracy of application provided by the enclosed mini brush. Also, the color was extremely vibrant and seems to really have the lasting power of a stain. More on this later.

Also, in the photo above, I purchased MAC's Morange, which has been on the to do list for a bit. I went back to MAC to try on Rebel, decided ehh, maybe later. Then, tried on So Chaud, decided that was possibly a close (matte) dupe for Wild Ginger, and finally decided on the straight up, (M)orange. This was a really unexpected color for me. Honestly, who would have figured orange for a ghostly, freckled girl? Certainly not me, but it actually is really wearable! I shall post photos of this at a later time, as my face would only allow one decent lipstick shot for today.

I guess that's the last of my little gifts to myself, for now. I plan on purchasing some hair and skin care products in the near future, so we'll have to have a little chat about those soon!

If anyone has a suggestion for posts they think I should do in the future, please, comment and let me know! Also, what are your favorite products right now?

Dressing Room Confession #2: Just Suck it in

Have you ever tried a shirt on in a dressing room and had the following thought cross your mind, "Exactly how uncomfortable will I be if I buy this and just suck in my belly 90% of the time I wear it?" Well that is exactly what was going through my mind as I was trying on this top at Urban Outfitters.

The thing is, this shirt runs extremely small. I would normally wear a small, but I tried on a medium and my little latte gut stuck out a bit. So, I went in search of a large and there weren't any. I found myself honestly contemplating a life of discomfort in this little, doll sized shirt just so I wouldn't have to order it online. I'm all about that instant gratification, ya know? Sometimes I do this out of sheer laziness, just so I don't have to try another size on!

Anyway, this shirt is great, aside from the tight, short fit. It will look great with so many different things. It looks super cute paired with a skirt as shown on the website. You could also wear it alone with jeans, or under a sweater, with just the cute collar peeking out.

I think I might just have to order two sizes up and get the large. I think I need this.

Here is a link in case you're interested. Once again, I would size up, especially if you're like me and prefer tops that don't cling to the stomach.

As always, thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more of my shopping trials and tribulations. Next up, a small beauty haul...
and socks?
